Surfers Paradise again hosts the great Australian equivalent of a white Christmas this December, with the sun-bleached sands of the Gold Coast’s most famous beach transformed into a twinkling wonderland as Santa arrives on his surfboat sleigh to spread festive cheer to residents and visitors.
‘Christmas in Surfers Paradise’ brings all the magic of the season to the precinct in a free family-friendly entertainment spectacular running from Sunday 13 to Thursday 24 December 2015, culminating in a brilliant fireworks display at the wildly popular Carols on the Beach, featuring some of the country’s most talented performers, on Sunday 20 December.
Throughout the twelve days of Christmas, families are set to delight as Cavill Mall lights up to welcome the man in red, as Santa makes his grand entrance in quintessential Aussie style, with a surfboat sleigh pulled by kangaroos.
Santa and his elf helpers set up station in Cavill Mall in dazzling style each day of the event, posing for FREE family photos between 12pm and 3pm, and 4pm and 7pm*, while children can also express post their Christmas wish lists to the North Pole.
Roving entertainers including the Acrobatic Elves and cheerful carollers lend a special element of holiday cheer, delighting crowds with their impressive antics daily, while merry decorations including oversized presents and large summer-themed Santa statues enhance the holiday spirit.
The magic stretches past sunset each evening, as a magnificent display of twinkling Christmas lights lend a special glow to balmy summer nights, providing the perfect backdrop for visitors to enjoy all the entertainment and excitement on offer in Surfers Paradise.
An unforgettable highlight to the schedule of traditional festivities, the fifth annual Carols on the Beach returns to Surfers Paradise on Sunday 20 December, with a stage spectacular headlined by kids’ favourite, Blinky Bill, and Mitchell Steele from The Voice.
Rounding out the stellar line-up is a host of Aussie talent, including Peter Murphy, Tom Gilinder, Rachael Steel, Vanessa and Graham Moore, Acrobatic Elves, Showbiz Circus, Vanessa Krummenacher, Georgie Gilings and Jo De Goldie.
Popular Sea FM presenter and former Hi-5 cast member Charli Robinson hosts the Gold Coast’s biggest Christmas carols event, with families invited to pack a picnic blanket and settle in under the stars to enjoy a wonderful evening of song.
Santa will be guest of honour at the event, while a fireworks finale will light the skies from a special ocean barge at 8pm, bringing the enchanted evening to a magical end.
