Megan Ryan

Well, it’s that time of year when the search to find Miss Universe Australia is reaching that crowning moment. Australia’s National finalists have just returned from their international boot camp trip to Karma Resort Kandara. Set for the national final held later this month in Melbourne at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Wednesday, August 31st, 2016.

Starting off our national finalist interviews, we have Megan Ryan of South Australia, who will be competing for the title of Miss Universe Australia.

Congratulations on making it so far in the coveted Miss Universe Australia competition. How does it feel to have made it so far?
Thank you. It feels like such a huge achievement to have made it this far. It has given me so much motivation to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone and to achieve things that I never thought I could achieve.

Tell us a little about yourself..?
I have recently completed my Bachelor in Nursing degree at the University of South Australia. I am currently being trained to work as an Aesthetics Practitioner, and I am working towards creating my Aesthetics clinic in the future. If I had to describe myself in one sentence, I would say that I’m a positive, authentic and ambitious person who is in pursuit of a healthy, happy and meaningful life.
What would you say is your drive or motivation for entering such a contest?
Have always admired the women who have represented Australia and who have had a positive influence on a wider community. I saw the Miss Universe Australia contest as an opportunity to fulfil my dream of making a difference and enlightening others about issues that I feel most passionately about.

You have all just returned from a team trip to Karma Resort Kandara in beautiful Bali, What a fantastic experience?
It was such an adventure! It was also a great opportunity to get to know each of the contestants on a much deeper level which has eased a lot of nerves for everyone going into the finals week.

We heard you got to take part in some amazing experiences as part of your trip?
We most certainly did! My favourite experience would have to be the Powerful Impressions sessions with Natasha Di Ciano. She taught us about the importance of creating our personal brands and helped us to fine-tune our communication and presentation skills which will be so beneficial for the future.

What was it like meeting all the other finalists from across the country? We are sure some new friendships formed.
I have, to be honest, the thought of spending a whole week in another country with people that I had never met before was very nerve-racking. I don’t know what I was so worried about because the contestants were all very welcoming and I created a bond with each and every one of them.

Now you are back home gearing up for the national finals what are your preparations looking like in the lead up to finals?
I have been fortunate enough to have been named Aleenta Barre’s newest ambassador which is a company that offers a combination of ballet, yoga and pilates. This has been a great opportunity to tone and strengthen my body and reconnect my mind in the lead up to the finals. I have also been designing and creating my perfect evening gown with my sponsor Natalia from One Night Stand Boutique. In my spare time, I love to be surrounded by my family and friends who are all so proud of my achievements.

If you were to win the title, what do you hope to take from the experience and are there any social causes you hope to raise attention to in this period?
I believe that being crowned Miss Universe Australia would allow me to experience so many wonderful opportunities such as immersing myself in new cultures and being surrounded by influential people. There are so many issues that I wish to raise attention to, but I feel that it is my life’s purpose to use the skills that I have gained as a nurse to physically aid people in remote areas around the world. In particular, I hope to visit the Neema House in Tanzania which is a rescue house for orphaned and abandoned babies.

Well now we pick up the pace a little with some rapid questions
As this year the rivalry between state is set to bring a new element well maybe that’s just us hyping it up, Why do you think your state has what it takes to win?
I would love to make my fellow South Aussie’s proud by being the first ever SA finalist to be crowned Miss Universe Australia. I believe that it is our year!

“Be kind.”

What is your must have item, that you take everywhere?
My lucky bracelet that my sister surprised me with before the state finals. It is made out of new jade crystals which bring luck and prosperity.

What are a few things that not many people know about you?
I find war documentaries very interesting, and I love listening to news radio on my way to work.

And finally, what is your guilty pleasure?

Eating a whole block of Lindt dark mint chocolate!
