Olly Murs Never Been Better Tour

The audience at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre certainly ‘Got What They Came For’ on Thursday night, thanks to Mr Olly Murs!  Right from the very beginning we were blown away by the impressive vocals of Anja Nissen, the support act and the winner of last year’s The Voice.

But when Murs came onstage amidst a massive fanfare of music and lights, it was clear he was the one everyone had come to see.  From the outset Murs was ridiculously energetic, which he somehow managed to sustain for the entire performance.  While some of his dance moves were daggy, he managed to make them sexy and cool again.  Murs’ cheeky side came out while interacting with the audience, making the ladies in the room swoon.  We’ll even forgive him for thinking pineapple lumps are Australian.

Murs’ musicality was also impressive – belting out hit after hit from his new album, Never Been Better.  Supported by a four piece band and two backup singers, Murs sang crowd favourites ‘Seasons,’ ‘Never Been Better,’ and ‘Wrapped Up.’  The performance of his hit song ‘Up,’ which features Demi Lovato, was aided by the incredible vocals of Anja Nissen, whom Murs invited back onstage.  After the crowd learnt that Murs lost his grandmother this year, they made a touching tribute, with everyone in the crowd holding up signs when he sang ‘Dear Darlin’.’

For the last ten minutes of the concert Murs showed just what an entertainer he is, getting everyone up on their feet dancing as though it was a “Saturday night.”  The atmosphere in the relatively small venue was electric and Murs completed his set with ‘Troublemaker.’

Overall I would give Murs five stars for his concert – he is such an amazing, energetic performer who can actually sing!
