Fashion is a circus – iconic Ekka parades undergo major transformation

Fashion is a circus, and Queensland’s top designers are putting on a show you won’t forget as one of Ekka’s most iconic events undergoes a major transformation.

Step inside the arena at the Ekka for the Natural Fibres Fashion Parades presented by Cotton Australia; celebrating home-grown fashion design and agriculture with all the glitz, awe and theatricality of the circus found beneath the big top.

The iconic Brisbane fashion event has been a favourite on the Ekka program since 1980, and for the first time, the runway shows will be taken to dazzling new heights this year. Audiences will be captivated by stunning aerial artists, eye-catching hair and makeup and dynamic choreography, along with the best new-season fashions.

The natural resources that bolster the Sunshine State’s agriculture industry are showcased in the most stylish fashion, as emerging and established local designers present their latest Spring/Summer collections featuring wool, cotton, silk and other natural fibres.

By putting these exceptional local resources into the hands of designers inspired by the Queensland climate, natural beauty and way of life, together with an urban fashion-forward focus, The Natural Fibres Fashion Parades encapsulate the Ekka ethos of bringing together the city and country.

RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said the parades support the ideals of the Ekka, as they innovatively pay tribute to the Queensland agricultural industry in a metropolitan setting.

“The parades represent a true celebration of the country in the city, in a format that everyone can appreciate,’’ he said.

“These are the largest publicly available fashion shows in Queensland, allowing Brisbane locals and regional visitors alike to experience the excitement of the Ekka’s most glamourous event,’’ he said.

The Parades’ creator, Fashion Event Director Lindsay Bennett, will again produce the event in 2015.

“Staged at Queensland’s biggest annual event, this year’s Parades will bring all the glamour of a fashion show, combined with the excitement and theatricality of the circus, to a huge public audience,” Mr Bennett said.

“Attendance at the Parades has continued to grow every year, so in appreciation we are giving audiences a spectacular show that they won’t forget.”

Providing all Ekka attendees the opportunity to see a show, the Natural Fibres Fashion Parades will run 33 times across the ten-day event, from 7 – 16 August 2015.

The Parades will feature 19 local designers, with an amazing 53 new-season, natural fibre fashions on show. Designers include: Easton Pearson, Gail Sorronda, Darb Couture, Brides Desire by Wendy Sullivan, Paul Hunt, Wil Valor, Irma J Smith House of Fashion, Pia du Pradal, Tengdahl, White Label Noba, Sacha Drake, Maiocchi, Urbbana, George Wu, Bora, Soot, Ubermen, Jack Sullivan and The Cloakroom. Hair is styled by CorCorz and make-up is by Napoleon.

The Natural Fibres Fashion Parades presented by Cotton Australia will be staged upstairs in the Fashion and Style Pavilion, Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane Showgrounds at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm daily.

So enter the fashion big top and enjoy a marvellous display of Spring/Summer style, with all the wonder and intrigue of the circus!
